Childminders should value the individuality of
all children in their care and all children should
be given the opportunity to achieve to their full
potential. Children should be given the same love
and care regardless of their ethnicity, attainment,
age, disability, gender or family background.
Ideally childminders will produce their own inclusion
policy which will detail how they aim to offer
an inclusive setting. Sample policies can be found
on the Childminding Resources
page.
Many
childminders are ideally placed to offer a child
care for children with disabilities. By the very
nature of childminding, childminders only look
after a few children at any one time, allowing
them to offer individual care and allowing them
to work in close partnership with parents. They
can often be flexible in their care to suit the
individual families’ needs and they can
often care for siblings.
Trio Childminding Development Workers (CDWs) are
available to give advice and support to their
network childminders on issues concerning inclusion
and the CDWs also have access to support from
Trio’s Inclusion Support Workers when necessary.
Trio Childminders will have access to the “Trio
SEN Code of Practice for Childminders 2009”.
in the grey panel to the right you will find ‘A
Guide to Inclusive Practice’. Or for further

an inclusive practice, please
